2022-23 Season Game

Under strict rules, with limited time and resources, FIRST® Robotics Competition teams use sophisticated technology to build and program industrial-sized robots to play an action-packed, alliance-based game on a themed field. With professional mentors and sponsors, students learn engineering and problem-solving skills that they can apply to real-world situations today and in the future. Each team creates a team identity, raises funds to meet its goals, and works to promote STEM in their community.

The 2022-23 Season Game will be revealed worldwide this coming January 7, 2023! Click this link to get event info!

Last Season Game

The 2021-2022 season game was RAPID REACT presented by The Boeing Company, two competing alliances are invited to process
cargo for transportation. Each alliance is assigned a cargo color (red or blue, based on alliance affiliation) to process by retrieving their assigned cargo and scoring it into the hub. Human players assist the cargo retrieval and scoring efforts from within their terminals. In the final moments of each match, alliance robots race to engage with their hangar to prepare for transport!

Each match begins with a 15-second autonomous period, during which time alliance robots operate only on pre-programmed instructions to score points by:
• taxiing from their tarmac and
• retrieving and scoring their assigned cargo into the hub.

In the final 2 minutes and 15 seconds of the match, drivers take control of the robots and score points by:
• continuing to retrieve and score their assigned cargo into the hub and
• engaging with their hangar.

The alliance with the highest score at the end of the match wins!

Our 2022-23 Season Overview

Pre-Season Events

Turtle Trials

Turtle Trials is a Pre-Season program put on in October by FRC team 3100, the Lighting Turtles. Each year Team 3100 designs a simplified FRC-style game. FRC teams who participate in Turtle Trials build a robot to compete in this game. Turtle Trials helps less experienced students get the hands on training in the pre-season phase so they are ready to apply design, build and controls skills when we jump right into the official FRC 6 week build season. Experienced students act as Captains, teaching others and developing leadership skills. Mentors step back and are there to ensure safety while letting this competition process be about creativity and learning.

Minnesota Robotics Invitational (MRI) and Minne Mini

These two Pre-Season events are held locally in Minnesota in October and November. They use the past season’s game to provide learning opportunities rather than true competition. New students learn about FRC competition structure, how to scout other teams, our competition etiquette, and hands on skills like driving, solving mechanical issues and controls issues. New families are welcome to come to these events and learn alongside the team! Be sure to mark your calendars for these fun pre-season opportunities.

Week Zero Event

This event is held in late February and is the first practice competition for the new game and the newly designed robot. KnightKrawler hosts this event and builds a replica of the game field during the 6 week build season. Our dedicated volunteers and students bring to life a competition robot and a game field too! Other teams from around Minnesota come to Week Zero to test out their new robots and troubleshoot issues. It’s a day of fun (and maybe frustration) as the teams see how their new robots behave in competition. Our team relies on volunteers to help bring this important fundraiser to life.

Competitions

Regionals (TBD)

Regionals occur in late Feburary and March. Our team has not yet determined which regionals we will compete in. Stay tuned!

Worlds / Champs

The World Championship happens in April each year. Whether KnightKrawler will compete at the world championship depends on a successful regional event. Stay tuned!

Minnesota State Tournament

State happens in late April or early May. This competition is conducted through the Minnesota State High School League (and is not directly connected to FIRST – which is why the timing seems odd. Knightkrawler will compete at this event.
